This is a rarely found 50s prom dress by extremely collectable label California Cottons. It is a confection of lilac chiffon with a purple velvet ribbon and bow accenting the bodice. The dress is strappy with a sweetheart neckline and ruffled shelf bust. There is a deep pleated cummerbund above the waist. The chiffon skirt is very full and flared. There is an under skirt of gossamer gauze and a silk acetate petticoat. The bodice is boned and lined in white muslin. The dress fastens with a back metal zip and hooks and eyes. Stunning!
Vintage items rarely conform to modern day sizings and the UK size we give is only a guide. You are advised to check the measurements carefully to ensure a good fit.
Approximately UK size: 8 HOURGLASS but please check measurements
1950s / CONDITION: Very good - there is a small hole in the gauze underskirt unseen when worn. The top "eye" fastener is missing. The boning at the bodice side seams needs a little tweaking back into shape but this is probably best done when worn to fit to the body.
